The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

What a good week we’ve all had this week. Year 6’s have ‘got back into the routine’ of classroom learning (post SATs). Their focused work on their writing outcomes has been very pleasing to see and interesting to read – we have some very creative writers within this cohort of children. “Thank you” to Kieshanda (Miss Matthew) and the Year 6 team for enabling our children to compose such interesting and high-quality writing pieces.

SEND children really enjoyed their educational visit to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, “Thank you” to Gemma (Mrs Karim) for organising and all staff who supported this event – feedback from the children and parents has been overwhelmingly positive.

We also enjoyed a visit from our newly elected Ward councillors who were supporting LBN’s Healthy School Streets team. This coincided with Walk to School Week, we are encouraging all children to ‘walk to/from school’ to promote healthier lifestyle choices. “Thank you” Ceri (Mrs Carpenter) for organising this.

Well done to all children throughout the school for your Science investigations, Liesel (Mrs Pillai) is particularly impressed with how everyone approached the practical investigations, coming to scientifically-informed conclusions and then explaining so confidently using specific scientific vocabulary and terminology.

You may also have noticed that our preparations to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee have begun. “Thank you” to Cathryn and Janine for organising a raffle and for everyone’s support in buying raffle tickets. I think you’ll agree the prizes are really worth purchasing a ticket. We’re all waiting excitedly to see what Friday brings…!

This week we’re looking forward to:

  • Our assemblies focussing on perseverance and resilience, this links well to the theme of London History Day (31.05.22).
  • Year 3 having training in preparation for them taking on Playground Ambassador and Peer Mediator roles.
  • Years 5 and 6 having important safety workshops focussing on knife crime and how to keep safe when out and about.
  • The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events – ‘Meet’ the Queen assemblies, Jubilee picnic lunch, the Corgi Trail, Queen Elizabeth facts knowledge organiser, Major events in Queen Elizabeth’s life timeline, Portrait competition, Jubilee raffle.
