Lathom students and staff came to school dressed in black and white on Friday 15th March to mark World Book Day celebrations. The amazing picture book, ‘The Only Way is Badger’ from Stella J Jones and Carmen Saldana, presents Badger as he puts his ideas into action. An immersive experience was created as members of staff acted out the story to students. This led to drama and discussion about Badger’s lack of tolerance and discrimination against the other animals.
One of the highlights of the day was when children met ‘Badger’ and were faced with a huge task: to persuade him to embrace diversity and tolerance by presenting strong arguments. Congratulations to children in all year groups, who succeeded in changing Badger’s mind. Each class wrote alternative endings for the story and the winning alternative ending (from Birch class) was acted out during the final assembly when the day’s events came to an end. All children are also encouraged to design a book token for World Book Day competition this year.
Thank you to our Reading lead, Miss Sheehan for organising another successful World Book Day and to all our brilliant actors in the story, ‘The Only Way is Badger’.
