This term, we will be writing a character description based on the core text, The Savage by David Almond. Initially, we read an extract from the book ‘The Wild Boy’ by Rob Lloyd and identified effective words and phrases about the setting and the character, The Wild Boy. Our vocabulary bank contained descriptive and figurative language. When describing the Savage, we used an action sequence and described the character at each stage: in a crouched position, stalking, attacking and devouring and perhaps stalking another prey.
It was fascinating to recognise similar characteristics between the two characters: the Wild Boy and the Savage. We enjoyed acting in role as the Savage at each stage of the action sequence and described the thoughts and feelings of the character.
We look forward to incorporating some of the amazing vocabulary in our plans and writing effective character descriptions.
