On Friday 10th November, four Year 5 students represented Lathom Junior School at the Newham Schools’ Armistice Service at the cenotaph in Central Park, East Ham. This year is the 105th Armistice anniversary of the end of World War One and at 10:50 a.m, this service was joined by members of the British Royal Legion and representatives of Newham Local Authority.
A two-minute silence took place just before 11 am at the Cenotaph and poppy wreaths were laid by students from primary schools in attendance. After the service, a British Legion representative spoke to the children about service men named on the cenotaph.
Children will write reflections based on the day’s experience as part of their home learning. They will be given an opportunity to share their learning with their classmates.
