This term, Year 5 students have continued to explore the unit, Materials. They investigated the process of oxidation in apples through observation overtime. After recording their results, they discussed their findings using scientific vocabulary.
On Friday 8th December 2023, Year 3 students participated in Lower and Upper school assembly to remember writer and poet, Benjamin Zephaniah, who sadly passed away last week. He was originally from Newham and was a recent focus for our Black History work. To honour him, Holly class read his Christmas poem ‘Talking Turkeys’.

Christmas is such a joyous time for children at Lathom Junior School. Year 4 students have been practising over the last few weeks and finally performed their special rendition, ‘Jingle Bells!’ along with their teachers. They all did a fantastic job! This ‘great sing-along’ will continue during assemblies for all year groups next week.
On Thursday 7th December, children and staff wore Christmas jumpers to show support for the charity, ‘Save the Children.’ This charity is known for helping children who face serious issues including war, hunger and poverty.
This term, Year 4 children have been learning about the Digestive system. They used step-by-step instructions, equipment and materials to create a scientific model of their own digestive system. During this process, children developed their listening and speaking skills while using scientific vocabulary.
During Road Safety Week, a Road Safety officer – Assia Karim – visited our school and discussed during assemblies the importance of being safe on the roads. During this presentation, children asked questions but also gave excellent responses about how individuals and communities could contribute to safer roads.
This term, Year 3 students visited the Soanes Centre in Mile End. The workshops were designed to enable children to understand seed dispersal as part of their preparation for Science learning in Term Four. It was a great learning experience for our children!
